Abstract
This paper introduces the new modular architecture of ISO10303 STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product model data). It starts presenting the major motivations for the development of modular Application Protocols, comparing with the classic architecture of STEP. After, it describes the structure of the new modu-lar AP236. It concludes contributing with a proposal for a methodology and architecture for the design and de-velopment of a new major package of modules to be integrated with AP236.
